ABOUT ŞALPAZARI
It is known that settlement dates back to ancient times in Şalpazarı. The Çepnis who live in this region are the people who came from Ucoklar tribe of Oghuzs. It is known that Cepni people came to city before the conquest of Trabzon, during the period of Uzun Hasan in groups. The word of Cepni means strong to the enemy, brave and merciful to the oppressed, honest. It reflects the features of the people living there. It is understood from sources of historians that Cepni people migrated from Middle Asia to eastern parts of the Eastern Anatolia Region and Iran. They prompted a revolt here and were exiled to Anatolia. About 100 000 of those exiles settled in Gorele, Tirebolu, Sebinkarahisar, Torul, Kurtun and Agasar (Salpazari) in the Black Sea Region.
It is known from the documentaries gathered from natives that it was within the borders of Gorele until a firman in 1798 declared that Salpazari was joined to Vakfihatuniye (Vakfikebir). Salpazari has become a township connected to Vakfikebir in 1914. It became a county in 1987 with law made in 02.08.1988.
Salpazari has a square measure of 138 km and the altitude is 270 m.
