THE PLATEAU OF MARTYRS: SULTAN MURAD
Sultan Murad Plateau located on the route of Trabzon-Caykara-Atakoy, has an height of 2200 m. “Yayla Ortasi Festival” is held every year on August 20. Also “Martyrs’ Memorial Day” is organized every year on June 23 for the martyrs of the war with Russians. Murad IV performed Friday prayer in this plateau on the way back home from Iranian expedition dated 1653. He had stayed here for a few days.
SİSDAĞI PLATEAU
Sis Mountain is the highest mountain in the region close to the beach. Its distance is about 85 kilometers from the city center of Trabzon and 38 kilometers from the coast of Beşikdüzü.
İSKENDERPASHA MOSQUE
Inscription over the entrance gate of the mosque dates back to 1529 (936 in Islamic Calendar). There is also one more inscription informing the restoration in 1882 which gave the mosque its present appearance. The originality of the mosque which underwent many repairs and was enlarged with additions at various times was damaged. The medrese standing in the courtyard was ruined, and the graveyard to the west was removed, leaving only the grave of İskender Pasha there.
A BREATH OF LIFE WITHIN THE SPRUCE FORESTS: KAYABASI PLATEAU
Kayabasi Plateau has unique scenery surrounded by spruce and fir forests displaying a rich flora. Kara Abdal Festival is held every year on the second week of August in the plateau.
HAPSİYAŞ BRIDGE
It differs architecturally from the other archedbridges in the Eastern Black Sea Region. The most important differences are its stone columns set on rocky surface, wooden body and tiled roof which give its originality. In old times, the buildings were substantially wooden. Hapsiyaş Bridge which is one of the most favourable works of art in the city, is also built that way.
GULBAHARHATUN MOSQUE AND MAUSOLEUM
In the memory of Gülbahar Hatun, mother of Sultan Selim the Grim, it was constructed within a külliye near the Zağnos Bridge on the west of Orta Hisar.
İPEKYOLU MUSEUM
In modern museology, it can be clearly seen that museums have high importance for the society in various ways.
