ABOUT KÖPRÜBAŞIThere is almost no scientific litterateur about the history of Koprubasi and the first habitation process. According to the information we got; some of the Turkish tribes which migrated from Central Asia came to Trabzon after the conquest and were placed in some available areas. Before the settling, Koprubasi was full of rich forests and the sun could not heat the soil due to the density of trees.
A family from one of the Turkish tribes that settled in Of came to Koprubasi by passing over the mountain in between, the Kozalak Mountain. They built a shack in a sunny area within the forest. Because this part was sunny within a thick forest, Koprubasi was called as Gunesara (it means Sunny part) in the beginning, for long years. After a while it was divided into two parts; Eastern Gunesara and Western Gunesara.
The people settled around a stream called Manahoz which comes about from the plateaus, 40 kilometers away from the centre and flows through the county. They built many bridges on the stream in order to help pedestrians pass over it and gave those bridges different names (such as the Big Bridge, The Middle Bridge et cetera). They built the last one between Sürmene and Koprubasi and called it “the Main Bridge”. Thus Gunesara became Koprubasi (it means The Main Bridge).
